We provide a workshop that takes youth through the process of becoming published authors. Throughout 10 guided sessions we teach them different elements involved in making a story and decide on the specifics of those elements for the single story we're making as a group. Across 10 interactive virtual sessions, we will take a group of youth through the experience of creating a real children’s picture book or comic. In each session, we will focus on a different “ingredient” of storytelling such as: world-building, characters, plot/drama, drawing, coloring, writing, etc. As a group, we’ll decide on each element of the story then put the pieces together to create a cohesive, children’s picture book. After we’ve completed the necessary steps to create the story, we will partner with a professional illustrator from a diverse group who will take all of the elements we’ve built and form them into a professional, market-grade product.

Scratch DJ Academy's instruction program is designed for absolute beginner students and provides all the knowledge/skills necessary for participants to become a working DJ. The program includes training in a variety of mixing, scratching, and music production techniques. Scratch will provide each NYE program site with a dedicated instructor, certified by Scratch DJ Academy. Classes will meet once weekly. The program is broken into eight core levels/capsules that build on one another. Participants completing all eight levels will have all of the tools necessary to become a working, professional DJ, should they choose. Throughout the course of a full year, we would aim to move through as many levels as appropriate for a site's participants. We would also maintain an approach of flexibility to account for varying commitment levels, participant schedule changes, etc. The below would always remain our north star.
Our programs are built on youth development principles, and inspired by Montessori principles and Reggio Emilia practices. We have workshops that fit into the NYS scope and sequence for all grade levels but our classes take a unique spin and offer content and projects most teachers aren’t doing in their classroom. Our team of progressive educators seeks to foster youth exploration and build a sense of community with each unique group we work with. We build our own culture and ensure that kindness and tolerance are at the forefront of everything we do. Youth voice and choice are central to every activity. Our arts-based activities are always "process over product", giving youth space to problem solve and create their work. Educators guide youth to find their own answers and determine how they want to work with the materials available. Our classes rarely have issues with behavior and we know this has to do with the DNA of our classes. Not only are youth highly engaged in project work but they feel a sense of belonging and safety in the class.

Yogi Beans is a 15+ year leader in the children’s yoga and wellness industry. Established in New York City in 2007, we deliver wellness education through yoga, mindfulness programming, and signature wellness experiences for babies to teens and those who love them. At Yogi Beans, everything we do – our classes, digital programs, trainings, events and advocacy – are focused on children and those who support and raise them every day. To do this, we educate and cultivate the whole child, their families, and their communities. Yogi Beans content is based on our character building, values-based curriculum that teaches practical skills for real-world use and remains true to yogic principles. Our methods of instruction are based on a structured order and sequence of specific content-elements, derived from traditional yoga practices, and out of which our “secret formula” arises, which is the basis for delivering all types of wellness experiences. Our curriculum, pedagogy, and teaching methods are all designed to nurture each child’s full human potential.
